Chapter 1: Introduction
1.1 Background
Children are among the most vulnerable members of society, and safeguarding their rights, safety, and well-being is a fundamental responsibility for organizations involved in humanitarian and development work. Refugee Pathways & Integration Canada (RefPIC) acknowledges the inherent risks that may arise in contexts of displacement, conflict, and resettlement, and is committed to ensuring the highest standards of child protection. This policy reflects our unwavering dedication to creating safe spaces for children within our programs and activities.
1.2 Objective
The primary objective of this Child Safeguarding Policy is to establish comprehensive guidelines and procedures that prevent harm to children. It aims to foster an organizational culture of accountability, ensuring that every employee, volunteer, and partner abides by strict protocols for the safety and dignity of all children involved in or impacted by RefPIC’s activities.
Chapter 2: Purpose and Scope
2.1 Policy Application
This policy applies to all individuals associated with RefPIC, including employees, volunteers, contractors, and partner organizations. It governs all activities and interactions where children are present, whether directly or indirectly, and establishes clear expectations for behavior, reporting, and accountability.
2.2 Stakeholder Involvement
The effective implementation of this policy requires active participation from all stakeholders. This includes engaging local communities, caregivers, and children themselves in safeguarding initiatives, thereby fostering a collaborative approach to child protection. The policy ensures that all voices are heard and that safeguarding measures are culturally and contextually appropriate.
Chapter 3: Legal Frameworks and Commitments
3.1 National Laws
RefPIC operates in compliance with national child protection laws in Canada and other countries where it conducts activities.
